Google supports GeoRSS!
March 22nd, 2007
Announced on the Google Maps Blog, GeoRSS, in all its glory, is now supported by Google Maps. Support for KML has been vastly improved too.
Maybe it doesn’t need to be said, this is a big big deal for GeoRSS. We now have support across all three major web map apis, and a common language for geospatial web.
There are some samples on the GMaps blog. Here’s another. Hmm, the documentation example itself isn’t working; that one is requesting a flickr GeoRSS feed .. perhaps Y is throttling, as Google will need to proxy all GeoRSS API requests through its own servers.
Anyway, now looking forward to GeoRSS in Google Earth. But not before a little celebration. Congrats all and cheers Google!

[…] As reported over on O’Reilly Radar, I first saw it on the georss.org blog, but ultimately it all came from the Google Maps API Blog Google Maps now supports geoRSS feeds. And, as followers of this blog know, Flickr outputs geoRSS feeds by adding &georss=true onto the end of an RSS feed. Which means you can throw them onto Google Maps really easily. […]

Hi Mikel,
I’ve been tinkering with GeoRSS and Google Maps to create a feed of our maps but support for polygons is poor - I can map a polygon using the new My Maps feature but not by simply adding a feed to Google Maps - the polygons just don’t show. This is OK but the My Maps thing has to be done by hand - not great when you have lots of maps.

I make cd business cards and this idea of
GeoRSS feeds is brand new to me. I look forward
to learning more. I advertise my cards as being
equipped with geo-tracking. I am interested in
making M-3 Cards that incorporate this technology
in order to make the cards more location specific.
How this works and how I can apply this to
my M-3 Cards is what I need to know more about.
If you have any ideas what I can do with GeoRSS
please dont hesitate to contact me. Also, I would
be interested to see if anyone else has done
anything geo-specific with cd business cards
before.
Also, Id like to find out about anyone who has
applied Geo-RSS to mobile gaming, or ‘big games’.
And, as always, if you have a cd business card
I can add to my collection, Id love to have it.

magnalox.net now supports export in GeoRSS (or better ATOM GeoRSS enriched) too.
Just click on the feed icon in a magnalog’s menubar and voila.
http://www.magnalox.net/log/no.php?lid=11696
Thousands of magnalogs have this feature now, browse
the database here:
http://www.magnalox.net/GPS_tracks.php?pg=101
A question I still have no answer:
How can I control the display properties of a track (color, width etc)?
Have fun
